Dr Myrna Pelgrum-Keurhorst
Since February 2025, Dr Myrna Pelgrum-Keurhorst has been affiliated with Windesheim University of Applied Sciences as a professor of Nursing Perspective on Person-Centred Care and Support. She collaborates with healthcare organizations such as Isala, IJsselheem, Icare, and Carinova, along with researchers, to enable more person-centered care and support that seamlessly aligns with the life story of each patient and client. As a health scientist with over 15 years of experience in the nursing field, she brings extensive expertise to her role.

Research Focus
As a professor, Myrna researches ways to improve care and support for clients, patients, and healthcare professionals. She explores how person-centered care can be implemented in a healthcare system facing complex societal challenges. Her approach is rooted in nursing perspectives and interdisciplinary collaboration, working closely with patients and clients. By integrating science and practice from the start, her research group strengthens this connection, increasing the impact they can collectively achieve in the region.
Education
Myrna studied Health Sciences with a specialization in Prevention and Public Health at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She earned her PhD at Radboudumc in 2016 with her dissertation: Prevention of Risky Alcohol Consumption in Primary Health Care. Do Professionals Care?
Research Experience
With over 15 years of experience in the nursing domain, Myrna began her career as a PhD candidate conducting international implementation research in general practices. She later worked as a senior lecturer-researcher at the Smart Health research group and as an associate professor of Personalized Care at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. As a connector, she combined applied research with education in the Bachelor's programme in Nursing and the Master of Advanced Nursing Practice (MANP) at institutional, regional, and national levels—always in close collaboration with nursing practice.
Her work has focused on research-based education, geriatric care, and palliative care. As an experienced practice-based researcher, Myrna has a strong affinity for embedding research insights into healthcare and support practices.
