Research Focus
Since 2016, Hermans has been affiliated with Windesheim University of Applied Sciences as a professor. Her research group, Constructive Journalism, explores how journalism can innovate to keep pace with a rapidly changing society. Hermans and her colleagues approach this from a constructive and audience-oriented perspective. Through their research, they promote reflection on the societal responsibility of journalism and examine how journalism can be meaningful for diverse audience groups in society.
Education
Liesbeth Hermans studied crafts and art history in Maastricht and communication science in Nijmegen. In 2000, she obtained her PhD from Radboud University with her dissertation: Professional Conduct of Journalists. A Qualitative Study at a Television News Editorial Office.
Research Experience
Liesbeth Hermans worked for about thirty years at Radboud University as a researcher and educator, including as coordinator of the master's specialization Media, Journalism, and News Use. Since 2011, she has been working at Windesheim, first as an associate professor of Media & Civil Society and, since 2016, as a professor.
For her research, Hermans collaborates with newsrooms and news organizations. She represents the Netherlands in the international Worlds of Journalism Study, which examines practical and cultural developments within the profession. She has published extensively on her research in numerous scientific journals.
