Dr Joost van der Weide
Dr Joost van der Weide has been a Professor of Social Innovation since 2023. Before that, he worked as an Associate Professor of Social Innovation and as a researcher in the New Employment Relations research group in Almere.
By background, he is an economist and earned his PhD with a leadership study on middle managers in both the public sector and private industry. His expertise lies in workplace innovation, leadership development, and fostering inclusive labor markets.

Research Focus
Joost van der Weide's research focuses on social challenges such as inclusive work environments, learning, and development within organizations. His key areas of interest include fostering a learning culture in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and enhancing sustainable labor participation for individuals with barriers to employment, including youth and refugees with residence permits (status holders). In addressing these issues, he considers both the employee and employer perspectives. In addition to his research, Joost is also a lecturer in the HRM program, where he teaches these themes in various course modules.
Education
Joost earned his master's degree in Business Administration from Tilburg University. In 2004, he obtained his PhD from the University of Twente.
Research Experience
After working as an organizational consultant for nearly ten years, Joost consciously made the transition to higher professional education in 2014 to focus on practice-oriented research and teaching. In this role, he collaborates with organizations to explore (new) ways to make optimal use of available human capital.
